Absorption and emission of the infrared radiation by gases in the atmosphere warms the planets lower atmosphere and the surface. This process means the warming effect of about 33% of the stratosphere. The cutting of trees for energy and other industrial functions increases the quantity of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, therefore, contributing to global warming. It accounts for 7 percent of the greenhouse gas emission. Forest act as the sink of the carbon dioxide within the atmosphere thereby playing a vital role in controlling the amount of heat produced to the environment. They also help in the absorption of the much water poured inland during the cyclones. Aerosols produced by volcanoes and pollutants from industries causes global dimming and the gradual reduction of the amount of solar reaching the earth surface.
